It will take a hero (in this case, a gal with strong arms and self-confidence) to lug home the excessive number of shopping bags from her first visit to Toronto’s Courage My Love. This place is anything but your average second-hand store. If the one-of-a-kind hats and sequined flapper gear doesn’t tell you that, then maybe the vintage lamps, prom dresses and Mexican coconut masks will.
Often your first stop is the $5 bargain rack and the rows of cowboy boots lining the front steps. We know the drill – you’ll just “quickly go inside to pay.” Be prepared, however, to stay a while.
The more creative bandits will fall in love with the bazaar-like kiosk that sells beads from around the world or the wall of unique buttons that can add fun and funk to any outfit. Also interesting (if you’re artistically inclined enough to find a purpose for them) is the floor bin of scrap brass pieces, $1 each. And then there’s the crazy selection of vintage clothes from every era before ours that you’ll have to suss out.
So hit the gym this week to beef up your biceps, because you’re going to need more than just courage to carry those bags home.
