It’s hot out there – really, really hot. The mercury is rising past 30 degrees Celsius, and we are all shvitzing bullets. There aren’t that many ways to beat the heat this summer – unless you’ve got a pool, lake or slip‘n’slide to use – so we suggest you head down to Dollar Cinema to indulge in cheap movies and their super-duper air conditioning!

Reality check: spending $13 on a flick (or $18 for 3-D) makes going to the movies an overpriced night – especially if you want a medium popcorn and a diet Coke to go with. But at Dollar Cinema, drinks, candy, and popcorn are all $1, parking is free, and admission to any movie is a toonie. The staff is friendly, and the theatres have full-sized screens with great sound and comfy chairs. Just because the tickets are cheap doesn’t mean the experience will be. The only downside is they don’t play new releases the day they come out – you’ll have to wait a little while longer to see your blockbuster of choice. But for these prices, it’s well worth the wait. Check out their website for a list of movies currently being shown, as well as show times, movie reviews and trailers.

So snuggle up with your seatmate, cool off with the A/C, and enjoy the fact that you didn’t spend half your month’s rent seeing an 3D movie that left your wallet empty and your head hurting (what’s with those stupid 3D glasses anyway?).
