While there’s nothing like an intimate café for a Sunday brunch, the eggs-bacon-home fries combo can become stale – fast. Bagel Etc. is a fresh and welcome take on Montreal brunching. This buzzing place caters to a large student scene, yet at the same time, cultured Montrealers with their horn-rimmed glasses and je ne sais quoi air also sit nearby.
The only explanation for this intermingling of brunchers is the undeniably delicious fare, like blintzes that would put your Grandma’s to shame and savoury eggs Benedict served on the quintessential Montreal bagel. What further differentiates this venue from other Sunday hangout spots is one of the regular early morning diners. Leonard Cohen’s picture graces the walls of the café, and the local genius himself is said to enjoy Bagel Etc., most mornings. Despite this celebrity patron, the prices remain low, with most plates under $9.
In the words of Mr. Cohen, Hallelujah.
