Toronto’s best gourmet burrito

By JENNIFER BOSHAN

Unlike many less-than-exciting 2011 resolutions like ‘locating the gym’, at City Bandit we’ve taken on a enjoyable challenge this New Year: to find the city’s best burrito. So, if you’ve still got your hands on a few holiday bucks and an hour to nestle into a post-burrito coma, head to Z.Teca Gourmet Burritos at the corner of Gerrard Street east and Church. ‘Zee-tek’-ah’ brings a fresh and healthy Californian take on Mexican fare to the cusp of Toronto’s gay village.

The perfect Gourmet Burrito is decked out as follows: large whole wheat tortilla packed with Z.Teca’s home seasoned pulled pork, cilantro-lime rice and black beans.  Feel free to substitute Grilled chicken, Steak or perhaps Grilled Shrimp – we won’t judge. Next is the fat-free sour cream, Monterey Jack cheese and lastly, a serious salsa decision. The Pico De Gallo is a fresh tomato salsa that tastes best paired with its spicier Roasted Tomatillo and Jalapeno neighbor. Basically, just go for both the mild and medium. After all, it’s not Mexican without a hint of heat.

And at only $7-8 bucks for one gourmet burrito, you’ll feel good about your delicious steal. Though it is true that the guacamole is extra, it’s also fundamental. So bring out that change purse, kids, and toss the extra $1.75. Once all is said and done, you have a pound of deliciousness that takes one hour and both hands to eat.

¡Comer con gusto!
