GCTC

BY ASHLEY FARAGHER

Dinner and a movie may have become a cliché, but a night at the theatre will never go out of style. Next time you feel the need for a dose of culture, hit up the Great Canadian Theatre Company.

The GCTC is not your parents’ theatre (although they would probably love it too). They’re a contemporary company focused on producing new and innovative Canadian content. Variety is the spice of life, and with the dozens of companies using the GCTC as a venue, there is certainly something for every taste.

Their current show, A Midwinter’s Dream Tale (Nov. 29 – Dec. 18), put on by a Company of Fools, is a hilarious combination of A Midsummer Night’s Dream and The Winter’s Tale. Throw in some clowns,  the Abominable Snowman, the Queen’s baby, and ice cream, and you’ve got yourself a play!

Now theatre can be expensive, and as a non-profit charitable organization, the GCTC certainly appreciates full payment. But they also understand that we’re not all there yet, and that making theatre accessible is very important. For those of us on a bandit-budget, here are a couple of options:

Rush Tickets
At noon the day of a performance, tickets are $23.73 for adults, and $11.30 for students.
Pay-What-You-Can
The first Sunday of each GCTC production is a Pay-What-You-Can performance.  Available tickets can be purchased in person at the box office as of noon for the 2 PM performance for whatever price you feel you can fork out!

You’ll certainly never have another boring date night again.
