Do It Yourself Earring Holder

BY SARA POTKONJAK

Whether your jewellery box is is in need of some serious untangling or you’re looking for a quick and creative DIY, we urge you to try this homemade earring holder, easy enough for even the most artistically-challenged to take on (trust us on this one!).

All you’ll need for this mini-project is a shoebox lid, some coloured napkins, tissue paper, or fabric, and an old pair of sheer pantyhose (if you don’t have any torn ones lying around, just postpone your DIY-ing until the Sunday after your next  drunken escapades).

If the lid you dug up is already coloured or patterned, then great. If not, start by covering it in whatever material you chose  – we used some red tissue paper left over from the holidays. Tape it along the edges of the lid to secure it.

Next, take the pantyhose and slide one leg over the entire lid. Make sure to do this gently if you’re using tissue paper or another delicate material to avoid damage – we definitely learned this the hard way, and we have the tear to prove it! Cut off any extra material, and tie a small knot at the back of the lid so it stays tight. You should have an entire leg left over to make a second one, or to donate to that friend/roommate/sister who will want to make her own.

There. That does it. You’ve saved money on wall-decor, done something creative, and secured a place for your favourite bling. That is, if you can mangle to untangle it first!

Great idea!!! I was thinking of doing something similar but knitting a funky shaped piece and hanging my earrings on that!

Oh, Awesome! I’d love to see how that turns out – snap a photo for us if you get around to it. I know lots of people do a similar project using a picture frame, but I only had the shoebox ;)

Sometimes I wish I thought of these kinds of things first!!
    Great idea.

Now I need a shoe box or maybe a cereal box will work too?
